Dear Elijah,

Today you are six years old.

S.I.X. Y.E.A.R.S. O.L.D.

I haven't forgotten how it felt to hold you in my arms, or how soft your baby skin was.

I haven't forgotten your toothless smile, or how blonde your hair was.

I haven't forgotten your toddler voice, or your pudgy fingers and toes.

I haven't forgotten how my heart broke when you were hurt, or how full it felt when you said "mama" for the first time.

I will never forget the feeling when you were placed in my arms for the first time. It felt like you were always supposed to be there. My heart felt like it could burst open with the amount of love I had for you {and still have}.

My heart feels heavy today, and it is not because I am sad you are another year older. The heaviness is from all those things I have not forgotten about you. My heart is filled to the brim with memories of you today and it is a beautiful mixture of joy and sadness. A mixture that you might be able to understand one day.

You are six years old today, sweet boy.

Here is to another year of memories with you that I will never forget.

I love you.
